Alanis Morissette
Alanis Morissette from Canada was born on June 1, 1974, in Ottawa. Alanis' Greek name is a feminine version of her father's surname, Alan. Her mother's name's Georgia and she has two brothers, Chad and Wade (Alanis"Twin). She first started playing piano and guitar when she turned 21. Alanis recorded a 1986 single that was titled Fate Stay with I (b Side: Find The Right Man). Her albums were recorded as a dance-pop performer in Canada: Alanis (1991) and the album Now Is The Time (1992). When she was 18, she moved from New York to Toronto which is where her collaborative efforts with songwriters and musicians didn't work out. Then, in 1994, she came across the perfect collaborator: the producer and songwriter Glen Ballard, who had previously worked with a variety of musicians, such as Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson and Barbra Streisand. After moving to LA She turned 19 years old. On June 13th 1995 "Jagged Little Pill" was released through Madonna's Maverick Records. Alanis came up with a method for writing songs that was intimate and personal. JLP is the 3rd most-sold album in history and has been purchased 30 million times all over the world. It was a time of intense emotional crisis (she even considered not recording another record) as well as a journey to India.
